Dear Friend
A few major things have happened since our previous newsletter: |
| Health |
 |
We expanded our nutritional programme from 903 to 1200 children and are expanding our programme of home visits from 60 to 80 families – and our manager, Jacques Treadway indicated they could do so without expanding their numbers.
The SCDP launched a deworming project benefitting 2048 children at two primary schools in Kayamandi. We received this wonderful letter from Mr Mdekazi, principal of one of the schools: |

Prof Elna Mouton, Dean of Theology, visited us to see the work of the women. We are most grateful to the Theology Department and Marietjie Botha in particular, for their continued partnership with us. |

| Parents and Children |
 |
We previously reported that the SCDP in May 2009, commissioned two training workshops, one for parents and one for their teenage children. These workshops focus on the role of the parents in raising children and on the role of responsible teenagers. Since then the SCDP established two support groups, led by the SCDP’s health-care workers, Nomajama Jikela and Gloria Feleza who meet with mothers and teenagers on a regular basis to discuss developments in their homes. In October, the SCDP arranged that five staff members received leadership training which benefits them and our Parent and Youth support groups and our Garden Project group. |

Pioneer Foods invited us to put in a request for additional support and we are immensely thankful for the outcome namely a huge increase in the support we get from this company. It enabled us to improve the daily meals that we give and to increase the number of children we now can assist.
Together with Tiger Brands and Timberlea Farm , the SCDP receives much needed food and fresh fruit for the many families on our programme. We are most grateful to them. |
